About Us
At the Acoustic Sensing and Imaging Laboratory (ASI Lab) we conduct interdisciplinary research at the interface between acoustics, engineering design, materials science, biological sciences, and artificial intelligence. We integrate concepts and tools from physics, engineering, and material science in the field of acoustics and develop acoustics transducers, to pursue complementary objectives of deep biological tissues imaging, structural health monitoring, and processing the information using artificial intelligence.
We foster cross-disciplinary research exploration promoting application-based engineered product designs, and innovation, and adding to the scientific know-how in the scientific community. We work in synergy with academia, industry, stakeholders, and society. Our team members hail from various fields and have expertise in a vast range of disciplines – including acoustics, electromagnetics and microwaves, optics, material science, and artificial intelligence.

The Our group is teaching various courses on BSc-, MSc- and PhD-level. The staff is notably involved in the master program in Applied Physics and Mathematics (siving-studiet i Anvendt fysikk og matematikk), and has the responsibility for the study-direction on Sensor Technology ('Sensorteknologi'). The group also participates in the study direction of Health Technology ('Helseteknologi'). There are frequently openings for new PhDs and Postdocs within the group and several opportunities for master projects. Bachelor projects can also be made on demand, and the group regularly welcomes exchange students and internship students from all over the world.
